NUKU: The Exhibition features a selection of larger-than-life-size images of 14 of the kickass Indigenous wāhine who appear in Māori storyteller and photographer Qiane Matata-Sipu's extraordinary self-published book NUKU, which was a finalist for the 2022 Ockham NZ Book Award for Illustrated Nonfiction.
The word NUKU is derived from the atua Papatūānuku and represents the ultimate feminine essence. This women’s wānanga is about connection and collaboration, a celebration of culture, storytelling, identity and female power.
The exhibition features a selection of the stunning images from the book, handpicked by Matata-Sipu herself. Come along to the opening at 4pm on Thursday 20th October or visit the exhibition anytime during NMIT opening hours throughout the Festival.
This event is part of the 2022 Nelson Arts Festival.
